WILDER

~ Routine

~ The sun is coming back & I just got a load of sheets dry on the washing line.

~ Seeing men hongi in greeting.

~ My community. I've said it before & I'll say it again ~ Berhampore is a great place to live.

~ Changing your mind about someone you thought was a tosser.

~ Staying the night at my parents' house & leaving Koko snuggled in bed between her grandparents while I went for a morning run.

~ This house in my Berhampore 'hood has the most bad ass lace curtains EVER. They make me smile every time I'm passing.

In case you can't tell from my mediocre photo, those are Mack trucks. Awesome!

~ Finding pretty maternity bras in my size at 50% off.

~ Teaching Koko to sing "Aye Aye Aye" Monkey Man styles.

TAMER

~ Getting a ladder in your stockings.

~ Hayfever.

~ Snotty colds. Especially when they cause you to miss a much anticipated party.

~ Biting your tongue when you sneeze.

~ Twitter RIPs.

~ Clipping Koko's thumbnail too short, causing her to bleed like a stuck pig.

~ Koko getting proper sick. She started off snotty, but when she vomited, started burning up & was lethargic I got pretty worried. Poor pet got a trip to the Doctor who diagnosed a throat infection.

Stop apologising for your Arts degree. Yes Yes Yes!!!!!!

A brilliant piece by Laurie Penny of The Independent ~ If you really believe in WikiLeaks, you must want Assange to face up to justice. "So please, don’t ask if one alleged sex attacker out of hundreds of millions currently walking free and unpursued across three continents should be made to answer for his actions in a court of law when all that distinguishes him from the rest of the army of decent men doing despicable things to women without facing the consequences is the fact that he happens to have personally embarrassed several governments."

Mighty Girl has compiled a list of 180 Things to Be Happy About. Here are a few of my favourites ~
34. Seeing my husband’s face light up just as much as the baby’s when they see each other.
44. Watching my daughter carry around a Patty O’Green doll from the 1980s like it’s the hottest toy ever. (I had a Patty O'Green doll when I was a kid. I don't know what happened to it but Koko has the Rainbow Brite doll that was my sisters.)
121. Men with crinkle-eyes when they smile. (Hello, Apa!)

Eep! I must go to Stockholm, take the subway, & get off at every single stop so I can check out these amazing stations.

The Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favourite movies. Here are all the book & magazine covers that appear in the film. (via Yum & Yuk)

Tavi Gevinson & Ira Glass! I love both of these people.

Brilliant! The Amazon reviews of the Bic for Her pen.

If Pokemon were drawn by Tim Burton.

Literary food! I would live in District 12 if it meant access to Peeta's Stuffed Cheese Buns.

Simon Sweetman wrote an awesome piece about his visit to Evil Genius! So cool! I'd like to think I added to the community feel he writes of when I inadvertantly arrived when he was there & announced "Hi!" to the whole store as per usual.

I think Laurie Penny may just be my new hero. Here's an amazing piece on rape, which is so worth the read, but obviously "comes with a trigger warning for rape and sexual assault that should be visible from space." (via Morgue)

Arrested Development is one of the funniest shows ever made. Here are 53 jokes that you might have missed.(also via Morgue)

And just to prove how awesome Morgue is, read his response to the exhibition being shown at The Dowse that is only to be viewed by women. Honorary Wilder Woman fo' sho.

And finally, even though almost everyone I know has already seen or linked to this, New Zealand really knows how to do a charity song. Best!

WILDER

~ On the nights when Apa is out & I am flying solo with Kowhai, she is always a complete angel. Bless!

~ For Apa's birthday we left Kowhai with a friend & went to an afternoon screening of The Dark Knight Rises. The movie was great, but even better was the freedom of being out without Koko. When we got home she was perfectly happy & had even taken a bottle, so hopefully we aren't far away from being able to leave her in the evenings.

~ Salmon, blue cheese, & eating chocolate ganache right out of the pot.

~ Gabby Douglas' 'Petty isn't Pretty' t-shirt:

~ Having popcorn stuck in your teeth

Wow! The creation of the invisible bike helmet. Just, WOW!

The lovely photographs that won the 24th annual National Geographic Travelers Photo Contest. (via felicityguide)

New York kitchen codes. (via Morgue) When I was waitressing in Connecticut we used "86" which meant none left. So "86 Swordfish" meant no more swordfish. I don't think this term is specific to the club I was working at though.

I'm adding this sweet silhouette project to the list of crafts I may never get around to doing.

Would you have guessed that Republican Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan is a fan of Rage Against The Machine? Me neither. RATM's Tom Morello responds. "I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta "rage" in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment."

Russell Simmons is pretty great. He is also a vegan. Here he writes to Lady Gaga about her wearing of fur. I like how he doesn't try to defend PETA's methods.

I like these photos of Miranda Kerr taken around Wellington. Maranui? Hells Yeah! Newtown? That's my 'hood sister supermodel!

I wish I had a courtyard so I could have these recycled bottle cactus planters hanging in it.

Oh. My. Goodness. Republican Senate nominee Todd Akin claims rape victims can't get pregnant.

Damien Echols talks tattoos, books & life after death row. "I don’t want to be defined by the way I was victimized for the rest of my life." (via Dr Morse INC)

Luxirare matches jackets to cars. Love it.

Having just completed week to of the Couch to 5k running plan I appreciated the timing of this article on someone who has completed it.

It's true ~ I get so much more done when I write a to do list. Gala Darling gives good advice on productivity.

Confession time ~ I've been keeping this tumblr from you for a while now, but the time has come to share. Get thee to Sup' Big Guy. Wanna bone? right now & spend hours laughing at the hilarious captions.

Apa

This man.
He is the best father.

He has incredible blue eyes with looong lashes which Kowhai has been lucky to inherit.

He HATES dressing up. He'd happily live in shorts & jandals every day of the year.

Kowhai adores him. They have so much fun together.

He loves beer, & pies, & good sausages, & steak, & mashed potatoes, & ice-cream, & chocolate...okay, he loves food. And he cooks me dinner every night.

He says he is shy, but he knows EVERYONE, & can talk your ear off.

He doesn't have a driver's license & prefers to walk everywhere.

He loves sci-fi & action & fantasy movies.

He is a builder & a draughtsperson. He loves architecture.

He would make a silly face in every photograph if I let him.

He makes up words.
He can't spell.
He is a mean beatboxer.
He is the best person to travel with.
He is passionate & obsessive about cricket.
My nephews & nieces adore him because he can play with them for hours.
He works very hard for our little family.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY APALICIOUS!
We love you XXXXXX

WILDER

~ Community spirit.

~ Growing families.

~ Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

~ The bunting bee. I had a room full of beloved family members on hand to cut, iron, pin & sew in a group effort to prepare decorations for my upcoming nuptials. Lovely.

~ You know when someone is really, really horrible to you but really, really nice to everyone else? Well, when other people finally start to see the horrible side too it feels good to know that you weren't crazy all along.

~ Miley Cyrus' new haircut. Yes, I'm ashamed to be admitting this, but I happened to be on some shitty news page the other day & saw a pic of it & liked it.

~ Sarah Walker's smile:

TAMER

~ Wellington Rape Crisis is in crisis; they've had to cut a day due to a funding shortage. This is apalling. Please please please donate to them here.

~ Pimples.

~ Flat inspections.

Captain Awkward has a couple of truly creepy letters about creepers. And a great response about rape culture. Everyone needs to read this because I'm pretty sure we've all been in this situation at some point in our lives. (via Morgue)

As the parent of a daughter Blue Milk has given me something to think on with Raising daughters to have high self-esteem and the problem with that.

Wow, catching up on the Blue Milk posts has been worthwhile today. "Alaska made me realise we lost meaning once our survival was secured."

More from Blue Milk and more on the Olympics with Australian boxer Damien Hooper's wearing of the Aboriginal flag. I find this debate really interesting because it makes me think of what might happen if a Maori athlete wore the "Maori flag". I think I'll talk more on this issue when I have some time to get my thoughts written down.

Jaws is one of my all time favourite movies. This piece examines why it is so great. It also reminded me that Brody was another of my first crushes. (again via Blue Milk)

This is a really really good piece on the Ostapchuk doping scandal & the "I knew it cos she looked like a man" responses.

Texts from Jane Eyre. Brilliant! (also via Morgue.) Also brilliant ~ texts from Scarlett O'Hara.

Bahahahaha...but also kind of sad, really ~ if every sport was photographed like beach volleyball. (via Nubby Twiglet)

Remember when you were a kid and all you wanted was a pool in your backyard? I never grew out of that. These backyard pools only fuel my desire.

I subscribe to Joy the Baker for the amazing recipes, but this piece: I accidentally saw a picture of you is sooo good.

Famous album covers recreated with socks. Sometimes when you have too much time on your hands awesome things happen.

Wilder Woman Gala Darling writes about Wilder Woman Diana Vreeland.

Take a look inside ten celebrity homes & discover that Cindy Crawford has a whole house to work out in, Drew Barrymore has an E.T. wall, Christina Aguilera has arcade games & pinball machines & I still don't get the appeal of Adam Levine. (via Gala Darling)

Eep! The Conversion of a Climate Change Skeptic has me feeling guilty for using my car so much. (via Dooce)

Double Eep! Must the poor go hungry just so the rich can drive? is another piece that has me feeling guilty about my car. (via Noush) Definitely catching the bus today!

Oh how the Olympics just keeps giving & giving. More hilarity in the form of mckayla is not impressed. (also via Dooce)

Nubby Twiglet designed a skateboard! I love it!

I have a fascination with names so I quite enjoyed Doe Deere's explanation of the origin of her unusual moniker.

Have you seen Gotye's mash up of all the YouTube covers of Somebody I Used to Know? It's pretty cool.

Remember when you were 20 and you & your friends used to get stoned & watch Baraka? Well, the makers of Baraka have done it again with Samsara ~

My crushes - the high school years

Third up in the series:

ETHAN HAWKE

When I first saw Reality Bites I wanted to be Lelaina & hook up with Troy. Now when I watch it I can't stand either of them. I also wanted to be the devoted girlfriend waiting for Andes crash surviving cannibal Nando after watching Alive, or Julie Delpy in Before Sunrise. Though I might have said no to Todd from Dead Poets' Society.

ANTHONY KIEDIS

I used to draw copies of Kiedis's tattoos onto my arms & wrists in pen. Sad but true. I also got to see him In The Flesh in my high school years. I wore men's boxer shorts with chilli peppers on them & painted rainbow stripes in my hair with poster paint. I wasn't the most popular teenager.

HAWKEYE from The Last of the Mohicans

Is there anything more romantic than this movie? "What are you looking at, sir?" "I'm looking at you miss"

ALEXEI NEMOV

During the 1996 Atlanta Olympics my schoolmates & I would tape the men's gymnastics & spend lunchtimes watching this Russian's routines over & over.

KEANU REEVES

Point Break. 'Nuff said.

My First Crushes here & the intermediate years here.

A dramatic reading of a one star restaurant review. Hilarious. (via Yum & Yuk)

Self portraits while on different drugs. (via Gala Darling)

I do love a good interior makeover story. This bathroom fix up is grand. (also via Gala Darling) This then led me to their bedroom makeover which I also love.

Dei Hamo made a bullshit homophobic comment on twitter & Tommy Ill called him out on it.

Dei Hamo then responded to Tommy Ill: It's just a joke.
Tommy Ill then responded to Dei Hamo's response: Your joke wasn't funny.

Top business advice ~ make an "I don't" list. (via Yes and Yes)

Another good Olympics infograph, this time comparing every medalist in the men's 100 metres. (via Nick)

New Zealand has marching girls, Japan has synchronised walking. Hilarious! And impressive.

Okay. so you've probably seen this already, but I love this woman:

This is pretty cool ~ Five guys return to the same vacation spot every five years since 1982 & recreate the same photo. (via Blue Milk)

A sweet day out in New York City, dictated entirely by drawing random destinations out of a hat. (via Yes and Yes)

Amy Poehler is one of my favourite Wilder Women. Here are some of her wise words. (also via Yes and Yes)

A good piece on why Kristen Stewart should not have publicly apologised for her affair. (via Molly Crabapple)

Olympians with tattoos.

Cute Cute Cute pictures! (via Fosterhood in NYC)

Learning to lose like winners. Yes, it's another Olymics piece. Australian, but pretty relevant all round I'd say. (via Dean)

This pic sums up that above article quite nicely ~
